The Yellow Wallpaper

This story was one that i hope i never have to relate to. The poor woman was so out of her mind she didnt know what was going on. I feel like the woman trapped behind the bars could be a reference to her and how she feels her life is. maybe she feels like she is a prisoner, since her husband is always telling her what to do and never allowing her to be a free person. It's quite scary how crazy this wallpaper gets her and how much the disease takes over her entire life.

"the woman trapped behind the bars could be a reference to her and how she feels her life is." - this is interesting! Can you elaborate it more? What do you think the trapped woman behind the bars symbolize?

Yes, Sung Hee makes a good suggestion--I also find this is an interesting insight, and worth pursuing... also, try to blog a bit beyond the frame of the story...to socio-cultural issues and issues in your own life...

i think that she feels trapped- meaning that her life is controlled by what her husband tells her to do and not to do. for example, she cannot do any writing while he is around, because he doesn't allow her to, thinking that it would just make her condition worse. but it could really make her better; letting her express her feelings and write about things instead of just letting them build up in her. i think that because of the time period that the story was written in, women were so afraid of their husbands, whereas if this woman was in that situation now, she probably wouldn't feel trapped because she would leave!
